Stand with Brother R. Anthony Mills to move AlphaForward.

In his book “The Servant,” James Hunter presents a compelling illustration of what it really means to be a servant-leader. In the book he shares, “leadership is ultimately rooted in our will. Not forcing our will on others, but demonstrating our will to serve.”

Certainly we all agree there’s a huge difference between leading through power and leading through authority. A number of leaders simply “force” people to do what they want because they have the power to do so; however, few people like to be forced to do anything. Eventually this “power driven leadership” will destroy the relationship. On the other hand, there are leaders who have the ability to lead through authority. Authority is different than power. Power is something you have and force on people, while authority is earned from those you lead.

Authority is fostered and nurtured through the demonstration of service and sacrifice. When others see leadership by example – that you hold their best interests at heart, and that you are willing to sacrifice to serve with and for them – they’re more willing to follow. These are hallmarks of servant-leadership and authority.

During the 2013 Eastern Region Convention (in Buffalo, NY) the delegates of AlphaEast will have a unique opportunity – an opportunity to elect a Brother who has proven he is a servant of the House of Alpha and wishes to help guide AlphaForward.

Many Brothers agree our Fraternity has experienced a turbulent period; however, working together, we can fine-tune our course so that we’re “refocused” on the Mission and Vision of the greatest Black Greek-lettered Organization to exist.

The AlphaForward platform strives to Develop Leaders, Promotes Brotherhood, Promotes Academic Excellence, and Provides Service & Advocacy to our Communities. Essentially recommitting to the core beliefs of the Fraternity is not only essential to a strong organization and thriving Brotherhood, it’s also the right thing to do.

The time to act is now.

To that end, your help is needed and requested to encourage Brothers (specifically, the delegates) of the Eastern Region Convention to vote Brother R. Anthony Mills as the 27th Eastern Region Vice President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Add your name in support of Bro. Mills’ plan to move AlphaForward today.
