Yéle Haiti!

Many of us can’t begin to imagine not having some place familiar to lay your head after experiencing what might be the most catastrophic experience at that time in your life. Yet this is exactly what has occurred to thousands of Haitians after the magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the small island country Tuesday. Keep in mind this earthquake comes 2 years after Haiti was pounded by four tropical storms that “killed nearly 800 people and caused $1 billion in damage.”

So what does this mean for those of us who have been blessed to sit in a secure home? The Universe commands we get involved.

Personally, I’ve chosen to give through the efforts of my fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha and Wyflef Jean’s grassroots organization Yéle Haiti (previously known as the Wyclef Jean Foundation) is a 501 (3) tax exempt charitable organization. The organization has been around for at least four years and is focused on projects designed to make a difference in education, health, environment and community development within Haiti. Additionally, if you’re in the US you can text Yele to 501 501 and $5 will go toward earthquake relief
